Sam Fender has handed over the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound award cash to the trust for venues, which operates to protect the Britain's small concert spaces.

Fender was presented with the prize on mid-October as his latest record the album was named the top album of the past year.

He has decided to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the vital role small stages played in his early career.

"I personally would not have achieved this success if it weren't for all the shows I did around the region, and further afield, when I was beginning," said Fender. "These spaces are renowned, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these locations have shut down – approximately one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

Recently, well-known musicians such as Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the MVT in its initiatives to help venues survive, by applying a small levy to their admission fees, which supports local stages.

Fender also took part, raising more than £100,000 on his live tour to help numerous grassroots venues across the UK.

The donation helped spaces that were confronting potential shutdown due to issues arising from flooding, fire incidents and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Other venues obtained monetary aid in improving facilities and gear that helped performers and concertgoers.

"The concept that revenue from shows in large arenas helps the independent spots, where it begins for artists like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has said.

Fender is far from the only musician to give his honor funds to worthy causes.

In the band earned the trophy in 1996 for their record Different Class, lead singer the singer announced that the band would contribute their cash to the charity the charity.

In 2002, rapper and singer she shared her bounty across multiple charities, like the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"And I gave a grand to the center, to their classes, because I trained in gymnastics when I was younger and they required updated gear," Ms Dynamite told outlets.

Two years ago, the band contributed their prize money to the youth organization that nurtured their group, in addition to other independent music bodies.

And the 1994 recipients they gave their award to a charity for MS after a friend was identified with the illness.

"The victory was quite enough," said artist Heather Small. "The cash was the extra but we didn't need the extra, because we had the cake. So our success touched another person's life."

Last week, the trust revealed it had rescued several local spots in south-east England, by transferring them to public stewardship.

The Joiners in the city and The Croft in Bristol were bought under the public acquisition program, which is backed by Arts Council England and music fans who acquire "ownership units" in the properties.
